learning styles

My main learning style would be visual/spatial. I really need visual aides to help me comprehend things, especially if they are handouts. I just feel more comfortable when I have something in my hands to read/re-read and be able to visually compare. For example, I usually print a hard copy of our assignments in this class so I can make sure that I'm covering everything I need to and can look back at the assignment while I'm organizing my thoughts (I do this for my other online class as well). I even printed all 16 pages of the article we were suppose to read so that I could have it to look at while thinking about all the intelligences.

Compared to other learning styles, I'm certainly not verbal/linguistic. I have a really hard time writing and memorizing dates. My husband on the other hand, could be a History Teacher, he keeps all sorts of historical timelines in his head!!! Although I enjoy being outside (on beautiful Spring and Fall days), I'm probably also not a Naturalistic learner. Science really confuses me. One of my least favorite subjects to teach because I'm not good at answering my students Science questions.

I would also consider myself a Mathematical/Logical learner because I do enjoy solving simple equations, a Musical because I do a lot with music, and an Interpersonal learner because I anaylize myself and my life a lot.

As for teaching, I try to encorporate verbal, visual, kinesthetic, musical, inter and intra personal syles as much as possible. I'm a big fan of Animated Literacy which utilizes many of these areas while teaching phonics skills. I also play a lot of large motor games to reinforce phonics (letter tag, etc.). My students also journal and have to draw an illustration of their journal entries.
